Hull-based IT solutions provider Layer8, which has supported Spencer Group’s IT systems for over 30 years, has joined forces with global cybersecurity leader Fortinet, a partnership built on aligned goals and a shared focus on delivering secure, high-quality network solutions.
Fortinet provides a comprehensive suite of cybersecurity technologies that help organisations protect their networks, devices, applications and data from cyber threats. The company offer a broad range of products, including firewalls, endpoint security, wireless systems, email security and data protection tools, all designed to keep systems as secure as possible.
Over the last two years, Layer8 has progressively deployed Fortinet technologies across Spencer Group’s infrastructure, beginning with a Fortinet network backbone and expanding to include firewalls, switching, endpoint management and data loss prevention. The integrated nature of Fortinet’s Security Fabric platform has enabled Layer8 to deliver unified protection from the network edge through to end-user devices.
In July 2025, Layer8 successfully implemented Fortinet’s FortiDLP (Data Loss Prevention) across Spencer Group’s IT systems, a solution that tracks the movement of internal documents, ensuring any data leaving the organisation is logged and cannot be transferred to any unauthorised systems.
Since its implementation, FortiDLP has delivered significant value, helping Spencer Group achieve cost savings estimated at approximately twice the cost of the software, while also enhancing the security and visibility of its IT systems.
In November 2025, Layer8 became an official Fortinet Advocate Partner, enabling the team to sell, deploy and manage Fortinet solutions directly, following Network Lead, Wilhelm Sem-Jacobsen’s completion of Fortinet Network Security Expert (NSE) Levels 1 and 2 training.
Layer8’s partnership with Fortinet also gives the company expanded access to Fortinet’s products, allowing the organisation to offer customers more competitive pricing across its network and cybersecurity services.
The partnership is a real step forward for Layer8, helping the company continue to deliver responsive, highly effective cybersecurity solutions that respond to the ever-evolving cybersecurity landscape.
Wilhelm Sem-Jacobsen, Network Lead at Layer8 said:
“Working with Fortinet has given us access to proven, enterprise-grade cybersecurity solutions that deliver real value to our customers. The success of FortiDLP within Spencer Group has demonstrated both the security and commercial benefits these technologies can provide. By becoming a Fortinet Advocate Partner, we have strengthened our ability to deliver secure, cost-effective network solutions to our customers.”
